Access to the Park
Located 10 minutes from the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the park is accessible through the Mara Simba Rangers barrier or Sekenani main gate. You are always assured of enjoying magnificent wildlife sighting along the way, we regularly see giraffes, impalas, zebras, gnus or even big game such as elephants or lions on the way to the reserve.
Solar Power
We are committed to minimize the environmental impact of our camp. During day & night we use solar power that provides lighting and hot water. The system gives uninterrupted power to all our tents.
Water Cleaning System
The water we use for the toilets and showers is from the Talek river. The water is pumped into the large water tanks and treated with a reverse osmosis system ( c/w pre-filtration) before being used throughout the camp.
Fences
Olimba is an open camp without any fences, which means, that animals can roam through the camp at any time. Our reforestation project is the only area with a fence, to protect the growing trees from our resident elephants and hippos whom in the past chewed a high number of small seedlings during the inception of the project. The camp is safely guarded by our securities, day and night.
Animals around the Camp
Situated along the Talek river and next to a historic saltlick, Olimba offers guests a chance to observe a myriad of wildlife while enjoying lunch or dinner under our big fig tree right at the river bank. Giraffes, elephants, impalas, warthogs and hippos are our frequent visitors.
At Night
When dawn set’s in you will definitely hear the lions roar and maybe even discover footprints of the most elusive cat of the savannah the next morning. At Olimba you don’t need a wake up call, nature will take care of your morning alarm with a high variety of chirping sounds of birds.
